Food and Drink

This covers only the very few places which are immediately local and the farmers' markets.

The best guide to city-wide places to eat and drink, to buy food or order a take-away is Daily Information's Food in Oxford section at www.dailyinfo.co.uk/food/index.html.

Immediately Local

Bunters - 01865 557135
4/6 Hayfield Road - end of Aristotle Lane and turn left

Newspapers - dairy produce - fruit and veg - deli - organic foods - bread - groceries - sweets - wines, spirits and cigarettes

As well as being an old-fashioned corner shop, Bunters has fresh home-made soups, baguettes and other foods with an emphasis on Greek foods.

Bunter's Shop

The Anchor - 01865 510282
2a Hayfield Road - at the end of Aristotle Lane

This has transformed itself from a pub into a very good place to eat which, amongst other good things, makes its own puddings. The service is very good and the cost reasonable - even before you factor in the benefit of being able to walk there in minutes. There is a Quiz on the first Sunday in the month at 7:30pm.

Local Farmers' markets

There is a market at Wolvercote Primary School every Sunday morning from 10:00 am where you can buy meat and vegetables from the people who raised and grew them.

In addition, there are farmers' markets as follows:

Oxford:

1st Thursday in the month from 8.30am

Woodstock:

1st Saturday in the month from 8.30am

Thame:

2nd Tuesday in the month from 8.30am

Bicester:

2nd Thursday in the month from 8.30am

Abingdon:

3rd Monday in the month from 8.30am

Witney:

3rd Thursday in the month from 8.30am

French Market

From time to time, a small army of French traders sets up stalls in Broad Street. If there is a pattern to this we have not detected it but there is often an advertisement in the Oxford Times and a mention on the City Council's web site at www.oxford.gov.uk
