Help the River & Canal Trust with plants along the back of Rutherway

June 06, 2019

To reduce the graffiti opportunities and improve the environment, Oxford Waterside Management Company have joined forces with the River & Canal Trust to fund native planting along the canal footpath behind Waterside.

This work party will be from 12midday on the 7th June. Meeting at Walton Well Bridge.

They need more helpers, so please go along for a while

Please sign up via the link on the website, and do not to just turn up.

Once they have done the planting, they will also need locals to volunteer to help with watering – this will be as simple as taking a watering can down to the canal and spending 20 mins putting a bit of water on them to make sure they don’t get too thirsty – especially if we have another summer like last year!

A bouncy castle will be in the square all afternoon... please supervise your children.

Delicious food served from 5pm in the square.

Loan of BBQ and gazebos to Watersiders

July 20, 2018

If you would like to borrow our BBQ or gazebos for a private party or event in Merrivale Square please contact us to discuss.

The BBQ needs large briquettes/ big lumpwood, so normal BBQ charcoal will give disappointing results.  Our old BBQ is still in the square if you want to use it without notice.

All equipment must be returned in good clean condition within 24 hours please!

Gardening Issues on Waterside

June 04, 2018

Nicholsons the gardening contractors advise that Viburnum Beetle is infecting plants in Waterside and that Viburnum tinus and Viburnum opulus are particularly badly affected.  They would not recommend planting these shrubs in your garden.  For further advice look at the RHS site

Also, Box bushes/hedges may be affected by box blight Cylindrocladium buxicola, a fungal disease, and as a precautionary measure, Nicholsons are not trimming the box hedges as tightly as normal, in order to reduce the likelihood of infection, which may be encouraged by tight trimming.
